About Brookings Harbor

Brookings Harbor, Oregon is an idyllic coastal community in lush Southern Oregon. Just six miles north of the California border, Brookings Harbor is often referred to as the Banana Belt of the Pacific Northwest, thanks to its sunny and temperate year-round climate. Unlike the rest of the region, The town's temperatures range from the 70's during summer days and the 40's in the coldest of winter nights. This makes Brookings Harbor quite the anomaly in a region otherwise known for rain and fog.

Brookings Harbor currently supports a population of approximately 6000 residents, with a median age of forty three years old. The local economy was historically based in lumber and fishing. Although these industries have been replaced by service-oriented sectors, they are still important elements of the local economy. Additionally, the twelve-mile region between Brookings Harbor and Smith River, California is the sole provider of every lily bulb produced in North America. With these diverse economic streams, Brookings Harbor provides its residents with plentiful jobs, while making the town less dependent on tourism than other towns throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Many local festivals and events happen throughout the year, drawing in residents and tourists alike. The second Saturday of every month has an Art Walk which features many regional artists. Every Saturday between June and October, the Port of Brookings Harbor hosts a Farmers Market with plenty of great produce, food products, and assorted crafts. Memorial Day Weekend also brings the Azalea Festival. In July, there's our celebration around the Fourth and the always impressive Southern Oregon Kite Festival. August brings the Boardwalk Art Festival and a Coastal Garden Tour. The fall season starts off with the Slam'n Salmon Derby, one of the larger fishing competitions in the region.

The area of the Southern Oregon Coast is tremendously beautiful, and that is inspiration for all types of artists. Several plays are put on throughout the year by multiple theater groups, in addition to the multitude of art galleries around. Brookings Harbor, Oregon is an excellent location to build a home, with its scenic views of the Pacific Ocean and conifer-covered hillsides.
